Welcome:

PTA President Susanna Carey called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.

 

PTA President’s Report:

Minutes from the last meeting: The April 15, 2015 and May 1, 2015 PTA minutes were approved with no corrections or changes.

 

Susanna Carey announced the nominees for the 2015-16 Executive Committee:

President-Elect: Kristen Weber

Vice President: Michelle Brayman

Secretary: Suzanne McGovern

Treasurer: Nancy Butler

Susanna called for additional nominations from the floor; there were none.

 

Christine Thayer moved to vote to elect the 2015-16 Executive Committee as presented. Courtnay Weitekamp seconded. All were in favor; none opposed.

 

Featured Speakers:

Representatives from Girl Scout Troop 3972 gave a presentation on the Charles Barrett Butterfly Garden. Eleven 5th grade girls, mostly from Charles Barrett, put tremendous time and effort into improving the garden, which is now an official Monarch Waystation (monarchwatch.org). As a result, the troop earned their Bronze Award. The girl scouts thanked many people, including the PTA for sponsorship.

 

Principal’s Report:

Mr. Kennard reported that SOL testing is completed. Almost 900 tests were administered and a few students qualified for expedited retake. Results look good so far.

 

Construction of the new Barrett classrooms is in progress in Pennsylvania, and the rooms will arrive here in three weeks. Demolition for the project begins June 22.

 

Goodbyes: Ms. Abd (1st grade) is heading to Douglas MacArthur to be a Reading Specialist. Ms. Stanczyk (5th grade) is leaving for State College, PA.   Hellos: Ms. Schuetter joins us from William Ramsay to teach 3rd grade. Ms. Waters joins us from Mt Vernon Community School to teach 5th grade, and Ms. Mall joins us to teach 1st grade.

She also presented the 2015-16 Proposed Budget (view online here: http://cbpta.org/files/2015/06/CBPTA-2015-16-Proposed-Budget-.pdf).

 

Anna Jaeger moved to vote to approve the 2015-16 Proposed Budget as presented. Kimberly Davis seconded. All were in favor; none opposed.

 

Susanna Carey made final date reminders:

June 10 – CBPTA Dessert and Yearbook Social

June 16 – Field Day

June 18 – Fifth Grade Promotion Ceremony

June 18–19 – Early Release Days

June 18 – CBPTA Teacher Lunch

June 19 – Last Day of School

 

Erica Jones announced the Charles Barrett Kids Care backpack drive. To donate, please place new backpacks in the bin in the front lobby by June 20.

 

Anna Jaeger discussed open PTA positions for the 2015-16 school year:

BARNES & NOBLE BOOK FAIR – December.  Publicize the event, recruit students/parents to wrap gifts and hand out flyers in the store.

COMMITTEE CHAIR POTLUCK – Fall.  Organize and host a dinner for the committee chairs.

GARDENING – All year.  Solicit help in maintaining the gardens, involve students, organize 2 farm-to-table lunches.

GROCERY CARD PROGRAM – All year, but the main push to relink card and sign-up parents is in the fall.

LABELS FOR EDUCATION – All year.  Motivate students and parents by creating incentives or contests.

PARENT SOCIAL – Fall. Organize an evening out for parents.

RESTAURANT NIGHTS – 4 times a year.  Coordinate with local restaurants to offer a portion of sales to our PTA.

ROOM PARENT COORDINATOR – All year, but busy in September.  Solicit volunteers and remind them of responsibilities throughout the year.

SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS – Spring and then August.  Coordinate between teachers and vendor, solicit orders and manage the delivery in August.

WEBMASTER – All year.  Manage and update website.
