PTA President Susanna Carey called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.


PTA President’s Report:

Minutes from the last meeting: The November 3, 2014 and December 13, 2014 PTA minutes were approved with no corrections or changes.


Michelle Brayman announced that the Holiday Shop, which had 10+ crafts, coffee, donuts, and 100+ participants made a small profit.


Erica Jones of Charles Barrett Kids Care announced the holiday Giving Tree raised over $3,800. She thanked everyone for the excellent support. Each family received a $50 gift card for Shoppers and a $50 gift card for Target. Ms. Bonilla also arranged for food from ALIVE! for CB families in need over the holidays.


Anna Jaeger discussed National PTA’s Take Your Family to School Week (TYFTSW), February 16-20, 2015. Charles Barrett is the recipient of a $1,000 grant for TYFTSW. Events will include Gallery Night and Reflections Awards on February 20, 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Math Night will be held on February 19, 6:30 – 7:30 pm (date change from February 26).


Susanna Carey thanked everyone for online and in-person support of the Barnes and Noble fundraiser; we raised $723.20.


PTA Treasurer’s Report: Nicole Crochet presented the December Report (see attached).  We are on budget in all categories.


Jill Anderson announced that a Charles Barrett PTA website is coming soon! The website will consolidate calendars, announcements, newsletters, forms, and all things CB PTA, including online payments. The site will also feature automatic language translation to better serve our community. If you have suggestions for website content, cbptasecretary@gmail.com.

Principal’s Report:

Mr. Kennard discussed flu prevention and emphasized hand washing. He reminded parents not to send sick children to school; children must be fever-/diarrhea-/vomit-free for 24 hours before returning to school. Some pediatricians are testing for flu; if your child is diagnosed, please consider alerting the front office.

Mr. Kennard announced Mrs. Kelley Organek will fill in for Ms. Ritter during her maternity leave.



Featured Speaker:

Superintendent Dr. Crawley gave a presentation and discussed numerous topics, including inclement weather decision making, “Excellence in Action” for ACPS staff, reduced testing for students, development of the New Strategic Plan (by June), finding current information on the ACPS website, the four-classroom addition for Barrett (slated for summer 2015; currently in the bidding process), Capital Improvement Program updates, and four-year goals. He thanked Mr. Kennard for his good work and answered questions from staff and PTA members.


Susanna Carey made final announcements:

January 19: Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday (no school)

January 30: Teacher Work Day (students do not report)

February 6: Family Fun Night School Dance (Please note: date printed in error on PTA calendar)




The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm.


Next meeting:

The next meeting will take place on February 2, 2015, 7:00 – 8:00 pm in the Multipurpose Room in the Library.
